Harrahs Gaming Machine Gives Away CashA Caesars Indiana slot machine on July 23 had erroneously multiplied by 10 the amount of money that gamblers put in, giving gamblers a whole lot more fun than they expected when they put money in the said machine. Sources estimated the total "winnings" of all the gamblers at $487,000 or nearly half a million dollars before the machine error was determined by security officials acting on a player tip. A player, Kathryn Ford of Louisville, Kentucky, had noticed that something was wrong when she tried the machine. After she put in a $20 bill, the machine registered that it received $200. Kathryn put in another $20 bill and the same thing happened. Kathryn said she and her husband had put in a total of eight $20 bills in the machine and in turn received vouchers that could be redeemed for a total of $1,600 in cash, even as they haven't actually played yet. Just then, other gamblers began to notice. Noticing the clear error, Ford and her husband told the erratic behavior of the machine to a security officer and casino officials. It was later learned that the said machine had a switch set for use in the Philippines instructing it to multiply credits by 10. |
